Scoff if you like, but Mike was one of the volunteers at GCSP many years ago.
He had a 41" single-stalk telescope that he shared there and at Red Rock State
Park in Sedona. He's spent years and piles of money to get this telescope
built. Several low-lifes ripped him off for 10's, if not 100's of thousands of
dollars, just to build this scope and SHARE it with perfect strangers. Make
fun of the TV station for getting just about everything wrong, but don't get
after Mike for it, unless you're willing to put your money where your mouth is
and share your knowledge of the sky with the general public. For free.
