Howdy all; From a location about 70 miles from Phoenix, Az., I made this = observation of this large open cluster in Serpens. IC 4756 Cherry Road Seeing=3D6/10 and Transparency=3D7/10 =20 This cluster is pretty easily seen naked eye as a very large oval bright spot at the edge of the Great Rift in the Milky Way. 8X42 binoculars resolve 9 stars with a very grainy background. The cluster does not = have a brighter middle and averted vision shows another 7 stars and greatly enhances the contrast of this cluster against the Milky Way. =20 With the 4" refractor and a 27mm Panoptic, 57 stars are resolved in a = very bright, very large cluster that is well detached from the Milky Way. = There is a light orange star on the eastern edge and a "Y" shaped asterism at = the center. A very nice cluster that is rarely mentioned; Steve Coe -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
