Thanks Rick, I would have guessed that the moon was closer to the zenith
than 5+ degrees.

Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: How High The Moon?

Wasn't It six months ago we were talking about how LOW the moon was?

Anyway this wasn't as straight forward as I thought. SkyMap's Ephemeris
doesn't calculate extremes of altitude, so I ran an ephemeris for =
extremes
in declination, eliminated the southerly extremes. Then I looked up the
transit times for the days the moon reached the Northerly extreme in =
Dec,
set the time to the transit and looked up the altitude. The results =
below:

Date (UT) Dec Alt
2007 Feb 25 23:50 +28=B0 35' 54" +84=B0 49' 50"
2007 Jan 02 12:01 +28=B0 23' 42" +84=B0 35' 36"
2007 Jan 29 18:30 +28=B0 30' 00" +84=B0 34' 31"
2007 Oct 02 10:26 +28=B0 17' 38" +84=B0 31' 41"
2007 May 18 23:22 +28=B0 17' 09" +84=B0 31' 22"
2007 Aug 08 23:11 +28=B0 20' 23" +84=B0 29' 56"
2007 Jul 12 16:45 +28=B0 14' 57" +84=B0 29' 15"
2007 Sep 05 04:35 +28=B0 22' 38" +84=B0 27' 35"
2007 Oct 29 18:29 +28=B0 06' 58" +84=B0 14' 49"
2007 Mar 25 05:54 +28=B0 34' 53" +84=B0 13' 17"
2007 Jun 15 08:32 +28=B0 12' 37" +84=B0 13' 05"
2007 Nov 26 04:11 +27=B0 57' 20" +84=B0 08' 35"
2007 Dec 23 14:32 +27=B0 54' 57" +84=B0 02' 17"
2007 Apr 21 13:49 +28=B0 26' 44" +82=B0 49' 12"

Looks like this months moon is actually near the low end of the scale, =
Last
month was the winner , only 5=B0 10' 10" from the zenith, at least from =
my
house :)

Subject: [AZ-Observing] How High The Moon?

Hello everybody,

So who has the answer: old Luna is looking pretty straight-up right =
about
now. What is the max altitude for tonight or for this month for that
matter?

Thanks,

Matt
