I observed the eclipse from Avra Valley with my 8" LX50 and a full aperture filter. I also used a digital camera to shoot a few frames (about 80+) and was quite pleased with the results. Most of the time the autofocus and autoexposure worked well, but I also tried focusing manually, with the camera focus disabled and a bit of exposure bracketing. http://www.whitethornhouse.com/dropbox/Eclipse20020610a.jpg A photo from after max, but some nice sunspot groups back in view. A hint on processing your digital photos... The photo above was processed only using a "levels" adjustment, I used no sharpening techniques. I brought the black level up, WAY up, until the edge of the Sun began fade too much. This really sharpens up the edge and brings out the detail in the penumbras of the spots as the display range can now show something more subtle than black and sun. This also helps with the limited range of colors in the sun, resulting in a false banding of various shades of orange. I brought the white level down a bit, but too much and the nice orange color fades too much towards white. The camera was a Nikon 995, afocal through a 35mm Panoptic, all settings auto for this photo.
