Howdy all;
I am having a problem with my CGEM mount and it involves getting the set up
to point accurately to double stars when I am using their RA and Dec
values. I know that the system is set up correctly because once aligned it
puts Messier and NGC objects into the field of view on my 14mm eyepiece at
165X consistently. As long as I direct the mount to point at double stars
that are in the handpaddle from Celestron they are also centered up with no
trouble.
The problems happen when I want to enter an RA and Dec position, then the
double stars are consistently at the edge of the field or just out of the
field. I have tried positions from articles in the Observer's Guide or
Sissy Haas's book on double stars. I have entered positions both into the
"GOTO RA Dec" commands and also put those values into the User Memory in
the handpaddle. I can't get it to work as well as positions that are
already stored in the memory from Celestron.
So, has anyone else had these troubles? If so, have you fixed it? I can't
believe that the 17 years since the year 2000 has precessed the positions
enough to put them out of a 30 arc minute field of view.
I am going to post this text on several of my favorite places in the
Internet, I do hope that someone will provide me with a solution.
