OK, I have it fixed. At the beginning of the night I set the date to May
22, 2000. Now I did the usual two star alignment and added two more
alignment stars when the system asked for them. I put in the 2000
coordinates for a double star in Libra and had the system GOTO that
position. The star was just over half way between the center and edge of
the field of view in the 14mm eyepiece. So, I "Sync-ed" the system on
Zubenelgenubi and tried three other double stars in Libra from the
Observer's Guide listing. They were all dead center in the view--and I am
a happy guy. Thanks for the feedback and I hope that some other folks can
use my method.
I understand that some, possibly many, of you hook up a computer to your
scope. I choose not to do that.

double stars are consistently at the edge of the field or just out of the

"GOTO RA Dec" commands and also put those values into the User Memory incan't
the handpaddle. I can't get it to work as well as positions that are
already stored in the memory from Celestron.
So, has anyone else had these troubles? If so, have you fixed it? I
believe that the 17 years since the year 2000 has precessed the positions
enough to put them out of a 30 arc minute field of view.
I am going to post this text on several of my favorite places in the
Internet, I do hope that someone will provide me with a solution.
