Timing is Everything
By Ensign Ffej Harak

The alarm to his chrono alerted him enough to break his medative trance. Ffej
stood and stretched his cramped muscles. Four hours in the lotus position did
wonders for the mind but wreaked havoc on the body.

He quickly showered and changed into his uniform, straightening his tunic as he
approached the door, not realizing its lack of usual slide upon his proximity.
The jarring impact left him confused. "Computer, open door."

The usual chime for recognition and acceptance of command failed to trigger...
"What in the world..." Accessing the panel to manually unlock the door and open
it, resulted in further frustration. "Computer, query on entry access to these
quarters. Who has over-ridden the proximity and denied process?" A moment's
pause for the computer's response "Access is denied, restricted security."
Ffej's brow furrowed.

"Marksbury must be testing us...well, we'll see if she covered everything.
Computer, audio countdown till oh-four-hundred. Queue thirty second intervals
until last minute, then queue ten seconds. Terminate audio on designated time."
Ffej pulled the panel free from the access point next to the interface.

Quickly locating the right junction to tap into the internal sensors, he began
focusing the array to a localized area two foot in diameter. The computer
chirped in with two minutes remaining. Speeding up his plans he began to tie
into the transporter system remotely. Using the localized sensor ring, Ffej
initiated a point to point transport from his quarters to the meeting area.
"Computer initiate transport in thirty seconds." Replacing the panel and
stepping backwards into the ring, he adjusted his tunic and waited for
dematerialization.

Ffej grinned as he materialized with only seconds to spare. There will be hell
to pay for that stunt, but there?s trouble everywhere. Either get your hands
dirty to the elbows or you'll never live life to the fullest...
