The Task at Hand
by. Captain Keith Ketchum and Lieutenant Junior Caine Reilly McKensily
Together Keith and Caine walked into the XOs office, "Michaelson, you have the
bridge."
Following the Captain into the office, she felt very nervous, this was only her
third time really talking with the captain and she didn?t know what to expect.
Quietly she sat down in one of the chairs and waited for Keith to start.
"Thank you for staying, Counselor. I have heard rumors that you and Commander
Sierra are serious about each other, but I need you to be very open-minded
about this." Keith took a deep breath, "I need you to investigate what
happened on the bridge in the last little bit in regards to the, for sake of
argument, mutiny."
?Yes sir,? she said, not really wanting to take this assignment but knew it was
her duty to do so. ?Sir, I will separate my personal life from my professional
life and I will get to the bottom of this problem.?
"Thank you. Once you have completed the investigation, I need you to report
your findings to me, at which time I will determine the recourse, if any, to
impose on the Commanders." Keith rubbed his temples.
Caine could see the stress and tension building up in her Captain already and
knew that she would do everything she could to find out what was going on
quickly. ?Alright sir, that sounds good to me, but before I even start this
investigation I really need to know, did Commander Skyler receive any orders
from you??
"At this point, there have been no formal orders. I was completing them prior
to my own arrival on the bridge." Keith saw he did pick the right person.
?Sir, did Commander Skyler know of the orders prior to her taking control and
moving the ship?? Caine was starting to try and work it out in her mind and
she knew that, while the Captain probably didn?t like getting questioned, his
answers would play a large part in the investigation.
"Not that I know of, Lieutenant."
Caine had taken out a PADD before and she made a note of this on it. ?Hmm,
okay, I?m sorry for questioning you sir, but it is necessary, which I hope you
understand,? she said, her mind going over time with thoughts.
"Quite alright, now, if you have any problems, during this investigation, I
would like to know immediately. Now, we better get back to the bridge before
the two of them team up on me." Keith smiled, "And to see if Mr. White Feather
and Dr. Roan have arrived."
?Of course sir,? she said, a small smile appearing on her face. The Captain
really cared about his crew and ship and Caine admired that about him.
