Takes place before "The Joy of Stun Screams" "Calibrations And Contemplations" By Sera Teryn & K'etrall Tery had to fight to keep the smile from her features as she exited the captain's office and headed down to engineering to report to her station. It would certainly not do to raise questions this early on, but she could not help but to feel happy. I couldn't have hoped for more! Skyler's just so... wonderful! And we want the same things! How much better does it get? Still, now she had a job to do. So she forced her mind to refocus on the job and away from the personal as she exited the Turbolift and entered the Engineering section. Grey eyes flicked around in search of the officer currently in charge of the deck. She knew that there was currently no true Chief of Engineering, but someone had to be running it, right? Having spent the day with Tavi, K'etrall was eager for some adult interaction. Sitting in her office she was going over the new crew reports and who was transferring into engineering. She already knew about Ensign McGivern. She just couldn't quite figure her out. Going over the padd's on her desk she saw a name she didn't recognize. One Ensign Sera Teryn. According to her record she was Bajoran and Betazoid. This was going to be interesting what with her being Klingon and Betazoid. Sitting in her office she wondered if and when the new ensign was going to report in. K'etrall didn't mind being acting Chief Engineer she just didn't like all the paper work that came along with it. She would much rather be working on the engines than sitting around reading reports and mounds of innocuous mundane things. Tery did not see anyone who appeared to be in charge in the main area, so she did the next logical thing. She looked into the chief's office. As acting chief, wouldn't the person have that office? Or would they have the ACEO's office? She poked her head in and quickly looked around. Looking over the padd's was becoming very mundane and boring. As she was looking them over K'etrall thought she sensed another presence in the room. Without looking up she remarked, "Ensign I thought you were going back to your quarter's for some rest? What are you doing back here?" Without getting an answer after a few seconds she looked up to see a different Ensign standing in her doorway. "Is there something I can do for you Ensign. I haven't got all day you know." Tery frowned to herself. That was pretty dumb... come on, Tery! Head in the game! Entering, she stood to attention and held the other's eyes with her own. "Ensign Sera Teryn reporting for duty." Yes, she knew this woman was not the chief, but she was currently in charge, so Tery did what was expected. "At long last. The missing Ensign. I was beginning to wonder if you had lost your way. Oh and you can relax... I am nobody special. So have a seat and tell me about yourself and your engineering prowess." K'etrall was trying not to be sarcastic but between Tavi and Ensign McGivern she was tired and cranky. What else was new for a Klingon. Although she was picking up something from this person. Now all she had to do was figure it out. Tery tilted her head for a moment, a stray impression sliding through her mind. But it was gone as quickly as it had come, and it hadn't really bothered to identify itself on its way by, so she let it go and sat as instructed. Tell her about my prowess? What is this? She shrugged. "First in my class at the Academy. Hacked Terok Nor when the Cardassians owned it, not that it was all that hard though." She chuckled. Actually, Dukat's computer hadn't been easy, and Odo's had been even harder. But was that really the kind of thing K'etrall wanted or needed to know? "Other than that, what do you really want to know?" She wasn't really bothered by the Klingon behavior. She'd known Klingons and halfbreeds before. Some of them had been good friends back at Academy. "Let me take a wild guess and say that you had the Dominion as much as I do. I am impressed that you were able to hack into the computers I just hope you don't plan on doing that while serving on the Avalon." What is it about the new ensigns around here? Either I am losing my touch or the Cardassian's did more damage than just this scar. Damn them!!! "So what other talents do you have that will serve us down in the bowels of the ship?" K'etrall was quite curious about this woman. There was something going on that much she knew. Tery frowned again, this time at the shift in the woman's sense. She seemed unimpressed... no, that wasn't the right word... annoyed?... with Tery's admission of hacking Terok Nor. Well, what did you expect? A parade!? She shrugged again. "I'm a designer, not just an engineer. I can fix it to spec if it's broken, but as former Resistance, I'm equally good at improvising when necessary. And as to the Dominion, who doesn't hate them?" Another shrug. In truth, there was a part of her that understood the reasons they had become what they'd become. But someone fragging your species is no excuse to become the monster you fear. Look at her own people. They'd suffered too, but they weren't becoming the enemy they'd driven off! "Don't take what I say wrong. I am impressed with your abilities. They will come in handy, of that I am certain. It's........talking about Cardassians brings out the worst in me. I was held captive and had things done to me I still haven't gotten over. But that should not be your concern. Your shift doesn't start until tomorrow. You will be on Alpha shift. I hope that is okay with you?" What I wouldn't give for a good stiff drink right now. Tery did not take it wrong. She knew first hand about what Cardassians could do to a person. She remembered vividly what they'd done to... Not now, Tery... later... "It's okay. Believe me, I understand." She sympathized. Boy do I understand! "Alpha shift is fine." Good! Then Skyler and I would have the same shift which means we could spend more time together! She caught the thought as it finished and restrained it, closed it off from any other telempaths nearby. "You sure there isn't anything you need me to do today?" It was, after all, always best to present the image of ready but not overzealous. Looking at the pile of PADD's on her desk, K'etrall sighed. "Unless you are good at removing mundane paper work, I don't have anything for you. The next shift should already be on the job. I am about to leave myself. If I am not mistaken you are also part Betazoid correct?" Tery chuckled softly, but not at the lady. "No, unfortunately I hate paperwork as much as anyone else. But yes, I am half Betazoid." Why did she ask that? Maybe because she is as well? Possibly. Would explain the odd sense I've been picking up... "I'm guessing you are as well?" "Actually yes, although not as strong a one as Captain Skyler. I am part Klingon, Human and Betazoid. The Captain is Half Human and Half Betazoid. It just seems that of late things have been......off." Why was she telling this person this information? She was a more private person. Not many people knew much about her at all. Tery frowned in thought, considering what she'd sensed around her since her arrival. But since she did not know what these people or this place was supposed to feel like, she couldn't really say whether it was 'off' or not. Yet there was that niggling thing in the back of her mind, on the fringes of her awareness, that said something was just out of reach, something odd. Or was it wrong? Was this what K'etrall was referring to? This vague sense of 'wrongness'? "If you mean the sense of 'wrongness' underlying the general flow of minds... yeah, I sense it too. But I can't really identify it." Not yet anyway... maybe later when I can focus on it instead of... other things... Yeah, right! Like that was happening anytime soon! "I am not sure what it is, I just know that something is "off." It really didn't matter to K'etrall. She would figure it out in time. She had a feeling a lot of it had to do with Ensign McGivern. Standing, she took a look at the Ensign before her. "As I said you are free to go until your shift starts tomorrow. You might want to go over the specs for both sets of engines. We have a galaxy class engine and an Intrepid class. Might provide interesting reading and take your mind off "other" things." K'etrall just grinned. "You are dismissed Ensign. Be here bright and early." Tery smiled, catching the veiled reference and trying not to look 'vaught'. "Thank you, ma'am." She said softly, snapping a salute and turning to leave.
