Background:
Varian is the son of a Bolian steel worker and banker. Both of his parents
have worked very hard to ensure that their only child could get into
Starfleet Academy, which was always his dream. They consider themselves very
supportive and loving of their son.

personable, there was never a question that Varian was well-liked among his

interviewer was overwhelmed by his charisma and forwardness at responding to

on a ship or station will be challenging so he can find a superior equally
inquisitive.

Varian Draal was aboard an ill-fated runabout that was shot by the Tholians
during his first mission on the USS Kalestra. The ship was found more than 5
light years from its last known position. Varian was the sole surviving
member of the runabout. He appears not to remember anything of the time from
when they were hit to when he was discovered nearly a month later. How he
survived and ended up so far away are two mysteries no one seems to have
answers
for at this time.
