"Accepting Changes"
Cmdr. Skyler and Lt. 1st Class Georgia Lewis

Needing time to think about all the changes that had occurred in her life
recently, Skyler made her way to the holodeck. Upon reaching it she told the
computer to start program Skyler Alpha 46 gamma.

"Program running, enter at anytime."

Hesitating a moment Skyler entered the program and found herself back on her
family's estate on Betazed. Walking further in she looked around and noticed
that it was exactly as she had last seen it, just after her parent's died and
she lost, or so she thought, her sister. The grounds were in disarray
covered in weeds. Shingles were falling off the roof, shutters were swaying in
the
wind. It was not at all like the grounds she had ordered cleaned up and
repaired for Sunni and Eli, if they chose to live there.

Things again had flip flopped on her. Now Eli was out of the picture and
Vevay Davis had taken his place. There was a hologram running around called
Maggie who was going to look after Sunni's baby, instead of Georgia. That in
itself was causing quite an uproar with Georgia. Skyler knew she needed to talk

to her about it but she didn't have the guts at the moment to see the hurt in
her eyes. It was the same hurt that was in Skyler's eyes.

When Melanie first joined the Avalon she did everything to find out about
Skyler and after some tremulous times they had managed to begin to feel like a
family again. It felt good to have a family again. That's what she, Sunni and
Georgia had felt like. Now it was all changing again. She felt as though the
closeness they had strived so hard to develop had disappeared. She knew that
they would always be sister's but it wasn't going to be the same. Even
Georgia felt it.

Still walking Skyler found a bench in the family cemetery next to her
parents graves. Somehow she always ended up here. Sitting on the bench she
looked
at the grave marker's, tracing her parent's names with her finger's. As she
did this a tear fell silently down her face. She felt as if she were letting
her parents down. But then she always felt as if she were letting someone down
it never failed.

Not really paying attention Skyler didn't hear the doors to the holodeck
open. She didn't hear anything until she felt someone sit down next to her.

"Is miss'em too Ms Skyler. Theys was nice people. Theys always treated mes
likes a part of yous family."

"Georgia, why do things have to change all the time? Sometimes it would be
nice if they stayed the same. I don't handle change well, you know that." She
just kept staring at the grave stones as if she could will her parent's back
to life. She knew she couldn't but she just wished once she could.

"Is knows hows yous feel Ms. Skyler. Is was so lookin to takin care of dat
baby. Now dey gone and git themselves someone else. Someone who ain't even
real."

Looking at Georgia, Skyler could see the hurt in her eyes. "I know Georgia,
but they are doing what they think is best. I suppose if that is the way they
want it, we have no choice but to abide by their wishes. I know you want to
help raise Sunni's baby, but I am sure you will still be a part of her life.
Sunni wouldn't leave you out. You know that. You'll be the best Granny that
child will ever have. If you spoil her anything like you did Sunni that is."

Georgia had to laugh at that. "Is reckon Is did that. Shes would jest 'bout
drives yous crazy wit all that stuff she did to yous. But yous jest let her do
it. Took the spankins for her, whens she did sumtin wrong. Whys did yous do
that?"

"I forgot about that. I don't know. I suppose it was because she looked so
fragile and innocent and everyone thought I was the trouble maker any way. Why
not let them just keep thinking it. You know Georgia after momma and dad died
you were the only one there for me. Well, you and Henry. I could ask you the
same thing. Why did you do it? Why did you take me in and raise me? Lordy
knows it wasn't easy."

Georgia put her arm around Skyler and pulled her close. "Ms. Skyler, I tooks
yous in 'cause I loved yous ans Is still do. Henry loved yous to. He thought
of yous as our own child, cause you were ours and we was going to make sure
yous was brought up right and proper."

"I think Sunni, or Melanie will raise her child just fine. I am sure Vevay
will be great as well. You and I will just have to accept things as they are. I
just have to ask one question, did you have to use the biggest hickory stick
you could find? My rear end still smarts just thinking about it."

"Wells at least yous still remembers it now dunt yous?" Georgia hugged
Skyler closer and just laughed.

Skyler stood up absentmindedly rubbing her rear end, "Come on 'ole woman, we
have things to do. You have to get back to sickbay and I suppose I should
return to the bridge or at least my office. Just remember we have no control
over anyone but ourselves and we just have to accept things as they are.
Especially if we want those people we care about in our lives."

Georgia stood up and looked at Skyler. "Yous turned outs s'ok Ms. Skyler."
Before she could react Georgia had Skyler wrapped in a bear hug.

"Georgia....I can't....breathe!!"
