I just tried repeat-pasting a block of text into an empty Notepad
file. Although word wrap was switched off, the text dropped to
a new line after 1024 characters, so I guess that's the maximum
line length in Notepad.

Then I copy-pasted a block of these 1K lines repeatedly until I
got bored at about 20 MB. Notepad was able to save and open the
file at this size. Possibly Notepad itself doesn't have a hard
limit on file size, but it depends on the memory and disk capacity
of your PC.

Even if Notepad's 1024 byte line limit isn't a problem for you, I
urge you to try Textpad or one of the many other excellent text
editors out there. I just used the 'join lines' feature in Textpad to
merge over a thousand lines from my test file into one line of
over a million characters. Presumably sufficient for most tech
writing needs ;^)

Cheers
