Great Idea, wish it was still true for 2007. When I do any manual numbering, it recognises a list and automatically converts it to some woeful numbered list. Another of my workarounds is to put all procedures into tables with a narrow column for numbers - then to enter the numbers manually - by far the fastest way when you have lots of procedures. I am currently preparing a 278 page, 7mg document (NOT written by me) for print, and it is taking me all day. It is full procedures that have been formatted with numbered lists. I want to tell ALL novice writers NEVER to touch bullets and numbering (YES I AM SHOUTING - this task is driving me nuts!) - but 2007 will effectively do that for me. It will scare off all but the most foolhardy. ck -----Original Message----- From: austechwriter-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:austechwriter-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bob.Trussler@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, 17 August 2007 1:00 PM To: austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: atw: Re: Help!! Word numbering Restart problem [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED] Amanda, In the past, I have just avoided auto numbering in MS Word completely. I make a style named Number Manual. It has a hanging indent and a tab. This works well for short lists of up to 4 or 5 points. Manually renumbering a list of 4 points is trivial, and much less traumatic than wrestling with Word. 1 First thing on list 2 Second thing on the list. Type number, press Tab, type in the text. press ENTER, repeat. Word sees this as just text, so doesn't get involved. _____________ Bob Trussler "Amanda Cat" <amandacat22@hotm ail.com> To Sent by: austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx austechwriter-bou cc nce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject atw: Help!! Word numbering 17/08/2007 12:24 Restart problem PM Protective Mark Please respond to austechwriter@fre elists.org Hey, guys, Ive designed a basic template for company-wide use. I've developed a numbered list (not outline) that I'm using. HOWEVER, numbering continues as, numbring does... I right-click and select "Restart Numbering" and it does, but I lose my tab and indent- Which throws all my indent styles and ListNumberLast styles out of whack and also makes everything squished when I get into double digits (10, 11, 12, etc.) Is there ANY way to restart a numbered list without screwing with the style sheet and losing my formatting? When I send this out, people are going to have to re-number and this problem will occur. Can I specify a ListNubmerFist style that always goes to 1.? Or is a Macro on the cards? (And has anyone written such a Macro for this?) (I wouldn't know how to write a Macro if it bit me - I'm more of an HTML person :) Many thanks, in advance, Amanda ************************************************** Important Notice: If you have received this email by mistake, please advise the sender and delete the message and attachments immediately.
