Greetings,

Central Sydney members' and friends' meeting
Wednesday, 29 June 2005

Graphics Deconstructed:

all the dirt on gif, tif and jpeg -- and bmp,
eps, wmf, png and ...
Do you instantly know which graphic format to use when you have
something new to do?
Do you waste time trying to figure out which format looks best?

Each of the formats was designed for a reason. Daryl Colquhoun will
explain when to use each format and why. He'll also show you how to
prevent blurry graphics from occurring and to save disk space into the
bargain.
When you know how they work and why, you'll save time trying to work out
the best one to use in any given situation. By the end of the meeting,
you should be able to confidently talk of vectors and rasters and
perhaps clearly understand the terminology, such as anti-aliasing and
dithering, and know what Brad Pitt's connection with graphics formats
is.
Do we need to know all the graphic formats or just a few of them?

experience, who, out of a sense of frustration at not knowing why there
were so many formats, decided to start finding out.
