I think we deal with a lot more processing and preserving food than Japan.
Just about everything we eat has some sort of processing, been sprayed with
pesticides, injected with hormones, etc. There is one preservative that we
allow here in the United States that I know for a fact is not allowed in
Japan and it is also found in tar or asphalt, but I cannot remember if it is
tar or asphalt.

Well it sounds fishy to me. People wanting to sell day old fish. I think
we have the same laws concerning fresh fish, otherwiseit has to be processed
and frozen or canned. But Japan does have stringent import laws, and
standards, the company that my Mother worked for exported product to Japan
and since she was QA she had to know their standards. She hated it when it
was a Japanese run. She liked it though when it was a UK run not nearly as
many things to look for, and not as many excuses to tell the line to stop
working. The Canadians were pretty easy to deal with too, their standards
are similar to American or US standards. Just some slight differences. it
