I just did some experimenting and you can have JAWS read the time if you
don't have the scripts. You may want the scripts anyway and if you want to
make the time be read automatically without scripts. you will have to make a
frame. You may have to make a frame with scripts as well if you want
reading to be automatic.
If you are satisfied with reading the time with a manual command without
scripts, do the following:
Start recording.
Route the JAWS cursor to the pc cursor.
Move the JAWS cursor to the bottom of the screen.
Move up one line. You should hear a lot of zeros being read followed by the
time.
You don't have to listen to the line being read if you know you are on the
correct line. Just hearing one or 2 zeros will be sufficient to tell you
you are on the correct line.
Move right on the line using control right arrow until you get to the time
readout.
Stay in the JAWS cursor and to hear the time, issue the command numpad
insert numpad 9. That is the desktop keyboard layout command. I don't know
the laptop layout command. You can issue the command as often as you want
to hear the time.
I had thought that JAWS couldn't read the status line. It can. But using
screen echo set to all doesn't work to read the time because JAWS starts to
read the entire line over every time the time changes. Because there are a
lot of zeros on the line, it starts reading the zeros and never gets to the
time part of the line. Every time the time changes, the line starts to be
read over again so you hear zeros read constantly and before you get to the
time, it changes and the line starts to be read over.
I won't go into how to create a frame. If you want to know, someone else
may do so. I haven't made frames for years and I would have to review the
procedure to explain it. There are others on the list who probably know how
without reviewing.

I expect someone will answer those questions. I don't use them and I know almost nothing about them.

Where would I get those scripts and how would I install them?
I've never had much luck doing that.

That appears to be a command you have to be running JAWS Audacity scripts to use. It is not a recognized command by Audacity itself nor with JAWS if you aren't running Audacity scripts.
