Gary, here is another option for setting time. I use it quite a bit for
setting length of selection.
From the tracks panel, press control-f6. In that area you will find a whole
lot of goodies. There are dialogs similar to those revealed by pressing the
left and right brackets. One sets the start of the selection – same as left
bracket. A combo box lets you choose what the next one does. You can set the
end of the selection (same as right bracket) or, often very usefully, length of
selection. There are other options as well. You can still use spacebar to
play while in this area.
To get back to the tracks panel, press control-shift-f56.

Yes, use your left bracket. It will bring up a scrollable time picker four
hours minutes seconds and milliseconds. Use that to get the point in time that
you want to find.
