No, Audacity does not have a true punch in facility. As of V2.3.0 though it
has a feature called Punch and Roll. Check it out in detail in the manual
- easy to find under New Features. To use it, put the cursor at the point
where you want to replace material. Press shift-d and playback will start 5
seconds before that point by default. When the point is reached, Audacity
will drop into record. Importantly though, everything beyond that point is
removed. You therefore cannot use Punch and Roll to clean up a glitch in
the middle of a recording. For my purposes, that largely nullifies the
benefit of the feature. For not very talented people like me, a true punch
in facility is far more valuable. That grumble aside, Punch and Roll works
very well for correcting stumbles as you go.

There is a free VST pitch correction plugin called GSnap. All of its editing
parameters are accessible and you can hear its work in real time. However, I
can't quite place the site where I obtained it. It may have come from a link
on the Audacity site to a whole suite of VST plugins.

Yes you can, but I'm slightly unclear about how it actually works. I know
recording can be configured in preferences to be sound on sound or overdub.
However, I don't know how Audacity deals with recording from marked points,
so that you can, for example, begin recording four bars before a punch-in
point, but not erase anything before or after that punch-in region.
