Thanks everso Gene and please do post them if you find them again.

BTW it was your review of Audacity posted to BCT I think it was (or it could have been Main Menu I don't recall) that got me into Audacity and I'm really enjoying learning how to edit audio now. Thanks for that.

Thanks, Robin.

Vista doesn't stop recording from the sound card. It makes the setting to do this difficult to find. I read about this awhile ago. I don't know if I still have the information. If I do, I'll post it.

In the case of Total Recorder, since I don't know how it is set in this instance, I don't know if this applies. If Total Recorder is being used to record from the sound card, the above comments apply. However, Total Recorder has settings that allow you to record by bypassing the sound card when recording Internet streams. My earlier comments don't apply in that case. I don't know if there are problems using Total Recorder with Vista when bypassing the soundcard.

Further to Gene's good tips I just wanted to add that I believe that Vista blocks the ability to record from a variety of sources to stop people recording streamed internet content.

I don't understand it fully but gathered as much when surfing to find out why my sister's Total Recorder wasn't recording from the internet under Vista.

Thanks, Robin.

Do you know how to work with the Windows volume control? Set the recording source to stereo mix, stereo out, what you hear, or whatever seems appropriate. Different sound cards use different names for the setting. It records all output from your sound card. Literally anything you can hear from the sound card will be recorded. Then record using Audacity. Unless you either have two sound cards or an external synthesizer, you won't be able to use your screen-reader because it will be recorded. If you want to be able to use your screen-reader for doing things while you record, you will need a program like Replay AV or Total Recorder, which record Internet streams without using the sound card. Or you will have to use two sound cards or an external synthesizer.

Hi all.

Just wondered if anyone knew how to record from a radio broadcast on the internet. Are their certain settings we make for Audacity to do this?

Any help gratefully received.
