thanks for the feedback.
Concerning track name repetition, do you get any repetition when pressing
shift+U or shift+S?
Do you get repetition when moving the focus to another track. If so is this
more or less frequent than the repetition you get when pressing Enter?
Concerning the different behaviour you're getting when you solo tracks. I
think this will be due to the difference in the setting of the Solo button
combo box in the track behaviours in preferences. Sounds like on the
desktop this is set to Multi-track, and on the notebook to Simple.
Note that by default, the portable version of audacity picks up its setting
from the same place as any installed version, that is from the folder
%appdata%/audacity. However, if in the Audacity folder of the portable
version you create a folder with the name portable settings, then the
portable version uses this folder, and you'll start with a clean set of

The repetition from NVDA when toggling track status is only slightly
increased in 2.3.3 over 2.3.2. From my perspective it is only mildly
irritating at worst.
I could not create a problem when navigating labels, all working as it
does in 2.3.2.
On an entirely different note, I have discovered a difference when running
both 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 RC on my desktop and notebook computers. Both are
running Windows 10 Home. On the desktop if I – say – solo track 1 that
works fine. If I then solo track 2 both are reported as soloed and both
play. On the notebook soloing track 1 results in all other tracks being
reported as muted. Soloing one of the muted tracks will cause it to play
and all other tracks are muted.
This seems to be something to do with the machines rather than Audacity
itself. I ran the same Zip file on both machines just now to set up the RC
and did not change any parameters. Reporting is the same with NVDA and
This is why we love computers ☹

Unfortunately NVDA repeating the track name isn't going to be fixed for
the next release, but here's a link to a portable version of a more recent

It has only recently come to my attention that using NVDA, the track name
can be unnecessarily repeated in certain situations. This may depend on the
speed of your cpu, and I would appreciate if anyone could check the
following, and let me know the behaviour on your computer.
1. When a track is the focused, then when pressing Enter to change the
selectedness, the track name is consistently read twice.
2. When moving the focus to another track, occasionally the track name is
Also, if the track name is repeated, how annoying is it?
Please note that there is a known bug in this release candidate that when
the Track view regains focus, the name of the focused track is not read.
This also affects the reading of track labels using Alt + Left/Right
arrow. This will be fixed in the released version.
If you check out this release candidate and find any other bugs, please
report them on this list,
