[audacity4blind] Audacity won't open

I've been trying to install Audacity on an XP machine with a wee bit of
trouble. audacity appears to install, but when I try to open it from the
desktop icon it says that the program cannot open and a reinstallation might
help. So, I've tried to reinstall with the same results.
On the machine in question I have the Delta 1010 PCI card install but the 1010
is not yet connected to the soundcard. I'm curious if this could be the issue,
and especially curious if others have run into similar situations and solutions
for curing the problem.
I'd like to use the on board sound card as an input device and leave the Delta
1010 be until I can determine that Audacity is working. I don't want to remove
the card from the machine... all help appreciated!
