Hi David,
I think that I'm still DavidB. Ted was commenting on something which I had
said, so I thought it would be useful to make at least that clear.
Stopping playback after pressing the left and right brackets, rather than
leaving playback paused, is not essential for some tasks, but it seems that
it may have been causing a problem for Michael.
In this context, pressing spacebar doesn't select the time range, that is
already selected (as can be checked by the values of the time controls on
the selection bar). So Ted's comment wasn't an accurate description of what
was happening. However,  you first stop playback, you can't play the
selected time range to check your selection.
I'll now exit this conversation, and let you and Ted to sort out any
remaining confusion, if necessary.
David.

Wait, what?

I was responding to Ted’s comment that he said he had to press the space
bar to select the audio between the brackets (for reference, Ted said:
“After putting down the markers, you must select the audio between the
markers by pressing the space bar.

"). Personally I never have to press the space bar unless I want to start
or stop the audio playback.

Are we on the same page? Is DavidB TedG? Am I in a time warp?

Me so confused,

DavidE

Hi David,

at the point I was suggesting pressing spacebar, playback was paused, and
so pressing spacebar would stop playback, rather than start it.

David.

Actually, pressing the space bar will start playback of the section you

Or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Right. After putting down the markers, you must select the audio between
the markers by pressing the space bar.

Hi Michael, <http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

I can't reproduce the problem using the steps that you've given.
<http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

However, at the end of step 4, it would be safer to press spacebar after
pressing the right bracket so that playback is stopped rather than just
paused when you press ctrl + N to open a new project. If you do this, do
you still have the same problem?

Ok Gentlemens here are my steps

1. Press Win Key and type Audacity

2. Audacity opened and I pressed CTRL+Shift+I to import my project.

3. I pressed shift + Tab to look for my files

4. When I found my file I pressed enter to get in.

Audacity begin to import the project. When Audacity finished the process
of importing, I pressed the  x key and Audacity begin to play the file.
When it reached to the point I want to make the change, I pressed the pause
key and followed by a  Left Bracket key then I pressed p again to let
Audacity continue playing to the point I want to end and then I pressed P
and follow by a right bracket.
<http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

5. I then Pressed CTRL + N to opened  a new Window.

6. I repeated step 2 again. This time when Audacity finished importing my
file, I selected a  little bit of audio from the second file and pressed
Ault+Tab to go back to the previous file that I worked with. This is where
the issue begins. When I pressed the X key to make sure that I have
selected the right file, but this time it won't play anything back to me.

Michael, I am confused as to the process you are using.  Do you have two
copies of Audacity running with audio in each?
<http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

Regardless, I do not understand why the file would not play.  You should
be able to alt-tab in and out of Audacity and still have it play when you
press x.  Could you give a step by step account of your process.
<http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

Is Audacity playing normally when you first play a file?
<http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

I do not have 2004, as they are rather slow at getting updates to this
part of the world.  Looking at known issues, they mention an unresolved
issue with some Bluetooth devices.  There was also mention of an audio
issue, but seemed to my limited understanding to relate to Audacity.
Perhaps you have found one one that does.

Hi all, this is Michael and I have a question here. Ever since I upgraded
my work station to the latest Windows update which is 2004 I begin to
experience this issue when I use Audacity to edit my podcast.
<http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

I have this entity of putting each file to a different windows this way I
can easily navigate around. But ever since I upgraded to 2004 the file
won't play anymore after I pressed Ault+Tab to get in to the x file in the
Audacity and press X key. I wonder which part did I messed up?
<http://www.freedomscientific.com/Certification>

Hope to hear from you soon
