Are you sure you're successfully entering bootloader mode? It sounds
like it might just be staying in regular mode. Can you confirm that the
LED is pulsing in and out?
Um, there's an LED? Where is it?
I'm pretty sure it's not in normal mode. After pressing the reset button
the keyboard is non-responsive for about 8 seconds, presumably as it's
waiting for a bootloader request. After that, it returns to normal mode,
and passes on key strikes as usual.

One thing I've found to be helpful on Linux is to run `dmesg --follow`
so you can confirm the point at which the new device shows up.
