Are you sure you're successfully entering bootloader mode? It sounds
like it might just be staying in regular mode. Can you confirm that the
LED is pulsing in and out?
One thing I've found to be helpful on Linux is to run `dmesg --follow`
so you can confirm the point at which the new device shows up.
