the core team, resource persons and the budget.
At the same time, it does provide critical mass within Ashram Shalas that would
impact implementation.And as Arvind says, focus has to be on science, as these
teachers will be expected to transact chapters using hands-on method when next

perhaps you need to focus on 4,1 and 2 in the first year. Ignore 3. that may
mean holding back inputs for class VII this year.
Also try to maximise the number of resource persons from group 4.
That will mean 660 teachers - if all of them are in place.
Now it may be possible that same class teacher is in charge of more than one
class (of say class 5 and 7) Such overlaps will mean that the figure of
220+220+220 may not really be correct. you need to check this out on the ground.
I am not sure if it is a good idea to do class wise training at this stage.
Perhaps we should do a common training (at least the training curriculum may be
common) focusing on basic principles of science teaching with a mix of
activities for all three classes.class wise inputs can be given in monthly
meetings etc.
The 'basic principles' may be drawn from HSTP workbooks plus Maharashtra text
books.
Perhaps we need to focus on building motivation and interest in the first
workshop - rather than focus on class specific activities. I would suggest a
mix bag with some social science, language and math teaching ideas. (some
reading and arithmetic included) as most of these teachers are going to
complain that their students dont know how to read etc.

They are currently in the field.
Please correct if this is wrong - every class has a class teacher who stays
with the same class from 1st to 7th grade. This teacher also teaches science
(and other subjects?). However, there is a single science teacher for 8th to
10th. Nashik ATC has 220 schools.
This means that over the next three years, we will be have to work with-
1) 220 teachers (current 4th who will be the 5th standard teachers from this
June). We will meet them for the next three years.
2) 220 teachers (current 5th who will be the 6th standard teachers from this
June). We will meet them for the next two years.
3) 220 teachers (current 6th who will be the 7th standard teachers from this
June). We will meet them only for the next one year.
4) 220 high school (8th to 10th) science teachers. We will meet them for the

5) From next year, there will be a fresh set of 220 class teachers who will
teach 5th standard science. We will work with them for two years from 2019 to
2021.

We are currently proposing to have three workshops for the upcoming academic
year's middle school teachers - separate workshops for 5th, 6th and 7th, in
April. Following this, we will have a workshop with the high school teachers.
We need to reflect on this situation for a while and think of how to go about
doing things, given that our aim is to improve the teaching-learning of science
in a sustainable way.
Can we have some basic thinking about this and consider the way we want to
proceed? Then we can approach the Tribal Development Department people and
propose our plan. What do you think?
