Prof Krishna Kumar as always has so many insights to offer. So many points
that will be relevant for us for the language aspects of the work. I
haven't read the NCF 2005 document of the National Focus Group on Language
Learning. Neither have I read his book "The Child's Language and the
Teacher". Prof Krishna Kumar mentions the NCERT 40-book series "Barkha" for
helping children learn reading on their own. He also says that it should be
simple enough to translate this series.
There were many ideas that came up in Amravati on the language issue. Bhas
had written about making audio-summaries of textbook chapters in Marathi
and Korku. There were other ideas like recording video of bards from the
Korku community/collecting Korku folk-tales and bringing out some books.
Another idea was to add a line of Korku text to existing books in
English/Marathi/Hindi. Let us try to bring together these ideas and figure
out how to proceed. I was also wondering if we need to work with the
language teachers at the schools if necessary.
I really enjoyed this 10 minute talk by Prof. Krishna Kumar.
We could also get the audio transcript of this talk recorded in Marathi and
use it as a resource for teachers..
