Well, yes, the A4's inertial system wasn't very good. :-)  Of course, it
was the first of its kind, so it can be excused a certain lack of polish!


I was once treated to a tour of the Alamogordo Space Museum with G. Harry Stine and John Paul Stapp as my guides. (No, I didn't record it - yes, I'm still kicking myself.) One of the exhibits at the time was a V-2 inertial guidance system, and they talked a bit about how setting it up involved some seriously skilled technician-time. (They had both been involved in firing V-2's out of White Sands back in the day.) I recall there were quite a few small potentiometers to adjust - a dozen, two dozen? - but alas, no further details.
