Props for taking the leap.
Regarding 'tea cart engine' costs. Our project costs for a static test
stand to support testing a 500-1000 lbf engine is running in the ~$4500
range, though this has involved a lot of ebay scrounging and 'bear skins
and knapped-flakes' DIY engineering. Your mileage may vary but I would
suppose that you could easily spend twice this amount without trying very
hard.

possibility that your existing skills are far more valuable than knowing
