In fact, now that I think about it, I wouldn't be surprised if a certain fatal nitrous accident was also partly the end result of people carelessly thinking "well, it's not LOX, after all...".

"Safe as mother's milk."  Maybe not the best thing to say to inspire a robust organizational strong-oxidizer safety culture.
