Pressurize with nitrogen, then vent to ambient. Repeat until reasonably
confident that no significant oxygen remains. *Then* pressurize with
hydrogen. (If you want the nitrogen gone, do a few pressurize/vent cycles
with hydrogen to clear it out too.)
The ideal way is to pump down to vacuum before filling -- doesn't have to
be a high vacuum -- but that may not be very practical for an amateur in
the field.
