There is a 'standard protocol' that can be used for this sort of
thing. It is called OLE (Object linking and embedding). It is up to
the applications involved to implement the protocol.
As a matter of interest, David Pilling has recently announced an
upgrade to Ovation Pro, which implements just this OLE for FireWorkz
Pro. It has always done it for apps such as TableMate and Eureka.
