There are a handful of programs which implement this protocol. I believe
Fireworkz is the only one that is actively developed, apart from Artworks,
but that may use a different protocol as many programs understand Artworks
natively.
Effectively, the program in question (Fireworkz Pro) has to save as a draw
file with its own data "hidden" in a special type of draw object. The
Draw format is pretty cool in that it is extensible. When Fireworkz Pro
(or a.n.other application) re-loads such a file, it uses the embedded data
object. When Easi/Techwriter loads it, it displays the drawfile data to
plot it and print it.
I hope that makes sense.
B) Does this require a new version of TW?
No, Easi/Techwriter have supported this for years. As has Impression.
Ovation Pro too, but you *will* need an update to Ovation Pro as it uses a
fixed list of "known" filetypes for this, rather than auto-detecting. I
believe David released a suitable update about three weeks ago.
Being able to activate graphics seems really handy. But I don't actually
use FW so have other sources in mind to create the graphics.
Now may be the time to explore Fireworkz, and if it doesn't do what you
need, explain why so that we can improve it :)
The latest Fireworkz Pro has been designed with a mind to table creation,
to replace older table tools, and has improvements to both spreadsheets
and charting.
