I've not used my ARMiniX for a while, but I did get 'pops' with that
when using a test version of !DigitalCD to play Audio CDs in the optical
drive. However, I *didn't* get 'pops' problems with playing wave files.
(I didn't use flac much on the ARMiniX.)

I spoke to Rob at the SW Show and he shed some possible light on this. He
explained that most of the hardware we use has two audio buffers which
automatically swap as soon as one becomes full.
Beagleboards and Pandaboards only have single buffers. He explained that
a brief silence when audio is being output, or 'pop' when nothing is being
output, could occur if the OS can't process the buffer the instant it
becomes full (due to being busy with something else).
This would explain why pops occur during periods of heavy processing
demands, such as when printing. And why they occur less under OS 5.22,
which processes things more efficiently than previous versions did.
Although a software solution could be found, it's unlikely to be
implemented since our hardware has now moved on!
