Probably not. ProPhoto is not a good gamut definition in> most circumstances,
since
it is unrealistically large. You need to come up with some> strategy for
establishing
realistic image source gamuts.
So having processed the images in ProPhoto (using soft proofing and gamut
warning with the target printer profile selected), what effect does the source
space have? If sRGB was used as the source space in the profile, would this not
limit/clip/compress the gamut of the printed image?
From what I have seen of the gamut maps of the P800 in ColorThink, there is
substantial gamut volume that sits well outside sRGB.
For high quality, I recommend per-image source gamuts >and creating per-image
device link profiles. But that workflow won't suite everyone.
Yup, I can see that and am happy to try it. I was intrigued by the notion when
I saw reference to it before.
