Hello!
So I now have a result that I trust. I was able to verify that
there is nothing funky going in either OpenBSD or the Live USB
envirormnent regarding color management and have calibrated and
profiled my display.

For future refrence I will try to describe my final method:
Download and Ubuntu (15.10) Desktop ISO and put it on an USB
stick with dd if=foo.iso of=/dev/rsd5c bs=4m
Factory reset the display
Too verify that there is no difference in output:
Boot laptop with the Live USB and select "Try out Ubuntu", edit
/etc/apt/sources.list to add "universe" repository and install
argyll
Start dispwin -m on OpenBSD workstation. Using the Laptop take
measurments using spotread -e and note the values.
Reboot workstation with Live USB and start dispwin -m, redo the
readings with spotread och the Laptop.
If the values are in the same ballpark the setup is not affected
by the change of operating system.
For calibration and profiling:
Move instrument to workstation (still have Live USB booted) and
follow some instruction for argyll (or dispcalGUI) (I used
http://www.ludd.luth.se/~torger/photography/argyll-display.html)
when the process is done, save the resulting files to another USB
stick and reboot back to OpenBSD to load the profile.
