having some sort of web interface available for instruments might make
sense.
you won't do it, but that doesn't mean that the instrument guys themselves
couldn't be persuaded to do it.
or at least consider it.
i broached the idea a long time ago, but then the web was considered
fashionable nonsense by those in the prin industry.

The "USB over web" proposal as it currently stands is fairly
unsophisticated,
and lacks support for timeouts or I/O aborts, so is also unsuitable
for communicating with some instruments. The people working on that
aren't terribly interested in addressing these limitations at this
point in time either. Merely remoting USB won't work for things like
the i1Pro, which has real time requirements, and if you think I'm
going to translate my USB instrument driver code from C to Javascript,
then you are rather mistaken....
