As mentioned in the Windows install notes, you could
instead install the libusb-win32 filter driver.

It has been updated recently to fix some bugs.
You'll have to substitute it for the Argyll supplied
driver. I've not tried it myself though, so can't guarantee
it will either work or not lock your system up...
