This has completely fixed the issue. After booting up just DOS the
auto-config
setups worked perfectly. I feel like a complete idiot for not realizing that
Arachne would need to actually run from a pure DOS system. I suppose I had
assumed that Win9x would use the same type of connection as the underlying
DOS system.
Perhaps they should stick that in the help files. Anywho I would much
appreciate that drop to DOS batch, would be a pain in the ass to reboot every
time I wanted to browse the web.
Info I have:
get mark.com release.exe utility pair (I've got them). Note these
MUST be used together. Ensure are stored on path otherwise
have to use fully qualified paths below.
2) In windows directory move/rename/delete logos.sys and
logow.sys and any other logo?.sys files you find.
3) In windows directory create dosstart.bat, and whatever
else it might contain, last line must be:
release.exe
4) Make batch file from which to start windows If don't already
have one and whatever else it contains must have:
mark.com
win
5) when want to crash windows, go "Start>Restart in MSDOS mode"
and windows will crash back to DOS without restarting and with no
damage done to windows. If have windows macro editor, as I do,
can assign above to a hotkey and crash out of windows
with single keystroke
