The Academy of Oncologic Physical Therapy has established a Task Force to
establish Entry Level Guidelines for oncology physical therapist practice.
This will establish the FIRST core document as to what oncology knowledge,
skills, and behaviors should be taught within entry level DPT programs and
will be used by educators, clinicians, and students alike to assure that
quality oncologic physical therapy care is being provided to all patients
living with or beyond cancer.
To date, we have completed a series of focus groups last summer and had a
data collection activity at the 2022 Combined Sections Meeting. After
these activities, the task force has developed a draft of the key items
brought forth by these data collection sessions. The next step in the
process is to refine and validate the data collected through a Delphi
survey. We are looking for committed volunteers who are able to complete
3-4 online surveys that are anticipated to take approximately 30 minutes
and participate in discussion groups after each round of surveys that are
anticipated to last 60-90 minutes. Each survey would be followed by a
discussion group which would be scheduled based on the collective
availability of the volunteers.
We anticipate needing 12-15 volunteers. If you are able to commit and are
interested in volunteering and sharing your expertise and opinions as to
what DPT students should be taught about cancer and oncology
rehabilitation, please complete this survey by June 20, 2022. We will
notify you by June 22nd of the next steps. Please note that selection for
this Delphi survey is dependent on interest and if we have substantial
interest, we may not be able to accommodate all volunteers for this portion
of the project.
