Hello APTA Oncology member,
Have you been wondering how to learn more about cancer rehabilitation? Are you
treating patients with a history of cancer or active cancer, and not know where
to start? Do you want help with research, academia, clinical practice, etc. but
don’t know who to ask?
The APTA Oncology Mentorship subcommittee is happy to announce the application
cycle for the 2022 formal mentorship program is NOW OPEN! After a wonderful
inaugural year by Alexandra Hill PT, DPT in 2021, the formal mentorship program
is looking to continue to grow and improve with new leaders, Lindsay Riggs PT,
DPT and Meredith Stutz MS, SPT.
The mentorship program aims to connect you with clinicians experienced in the
realm of oncologic physical therapy - to grow your knowledge base, skills,
business acumen, etc. - for a structured period of time. You can choose from
either a 6-month or a 12-month program which will begin in September, 2022. By
filling out our application here<https://forms.gle/BsUwd6C9imbFRhBy5>, you will
be paired with a mentor of similar interests, backgrounds, etc. for an optimal
experience. Did we mention that this program is FREE!
To be considered as a mentee you must be an APTA Oncology member, and at least
one of the following: a current student PT or PTA, new PT/PTA (0-5 years of
practice), or new to oncology (0-5 years with the population).
Applications for this year’s cycle will close on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.
Please email lriggs89@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:lriggs89@xxxxxxxxx> or
meredith.stutz@xxxxxxxx<mailto:meredith.stutz@xxxxxxxx> if you have any
questions or concerns.
If a formal mentorship program isn’t something you are interested in or can
commit to, you can also utilize our Resource
List<https://oncologypt.org/education/#ClinicalInternships>. There you can find
cancer rehab professionals who have stated they are willing to help and they
are listed by area of the country. Reach out to them with questions you may
have regarding cancer rehab.
Respectfully,
APTA Oncology Mentorship Subcommittee
