The response from local volunteers has been abundant and volunteers from outside the area are currently not needed. In Washington, IL, where hundreds of homes were damaged and destroyed, MDS has partnered with Calvary Evangelical Church. Leonard Kennell, Region II Director, together with MDS volunteers, is working with local agencies and organizations to plan for the next steps in response. Our volunteers this week are all new to MDS and are from OH, PA, IN and WI with good skills and enthusiasm. <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/mycbbb> Click here to read the Austin Chronicle article about the recovery work in Bastrop. <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/2qdbbb> *BASTROP, TEXAS: RV PROJECT* <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/ijebbb> *Disaster: 2011 Wildfires* We had rainy, cold weather this week but fortunately, the house portion of Ms. Lisa’s roof had been dried in on the previous Friday. This allowed our team to continue working in spite of the weather. We found lots of work to do with resizing window and door openings before the actual units could be put in place, but, by the end of the week all of those were installed and the house could now be locked up. *BRAITHWAITE, LOUISIANA <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/ybfbbb>* *Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Isaac* We are thankful for a good work crew and their good workmanship. The ramp we built for Mr. Marcus looks very good. His sisters came and gave us hugs of appreciation. They were all able to move into their new accommodations just in time for Thanksgiving because Marcus was now able to get into his place with his motorized wheel chair. The sisters are his caregivers. *CRISFIELD, MARYLAND* <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/e4fbbb> *Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Sandy* Three jobs were completed in the last week. The window was installed and trimmed at Mr. James' home, the roof was repaired and the laminate accessories installed at Mrs. Phyllis' home and our small repair task was finished at Mr. Albert's home. On the new MDS homes, underlayment was installed at Mr. Scott and Mrs. Jenny Lynn's. This home is awaiting the installation of vinyl flooring. Much was accomplished at Mrs. Susie's house. She stopped by most evenings, very excited with all that was constructed. The roof was shingled, the windows and doors placed, and much of the vinyl siding, soffit and fascia trim completed. *FAR ROCKAWAY, NEW YORK* <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/uwgbbb> *Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Sandy* Ms. Rosemary’s house has received its final coat of sea-green paint, flooring has been started, and the trim and accessorizing still to come. More work was done on Ms. Stella’s home, as well as drywall installation at Ms. Victoria’s, and cabinets installed at Ms. Thelma’s. We had a Thanksgiving feast and Ms. Rosemary came to share with us, which became a feast for our spirits to see how God sustains those who trust in Him. For those of you from previous work crews who may be reading this, you will be happy to know that Mr. Anthony and Mrs. Helen have received just the right amount of encouragement so they can restore their home all on their own. *HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/aphbbb>* *Disaster: 2013 Tornado* This week we repaired the bedroom and bathroom for Ms. Emma. She had that part of her home closed off since the tornado this last spring. By late Wednesday afternoon we had the floors leveled, replaced and a nice carpeting in the bedroom and vinyl in the bathroom. When she saw the results she was overjoyed to be able to use this part of her house again. The laminate flooring is completely laid and the vinyl has been put on the kitchen, bath and entrance halls. Doors have been stained, the glossy polyurethane applied and all of them hung. The basement of Ms. Carolyn’s house has all the drywall in and much of the taping completed. Two rooms have been painted with the primer. The basement bathroom has the tub installed. Clara and Jeff continue to work alongside of the crew at their house. Drywall and insulation was brought in and is now being installed in the house. The electrician has completed the rough-in. *SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/m2jbbb>* *Disaster: 2013 Tornados* The log siding was completed on Mr. Tom’s mobile home and the roof job was completed on Mr. Jerry’s home. We installed some drywall at Mr. Larry’s home allowing him to complete the rest on his own. This was the same home where we moved a half of a double-wide trailer into place, framed the second half, roofed, installed windows and doors and sided. It is great to know that Larry and family will be in their new home soon. *STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK <http://e2.ma/click/2in9d/uo61yb/2ukbbb>* *Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Sandy* Weather turned bad this week but we did manage to use eight energetic volunteers to complete a roof job for Ms. Donna. The job began by removing four to five layers of shingles before new plywood could be installed, followed by shingles on a rainy Tuesday. The crew worked well into the night to ensure the roof would stay dry.
