Dear Delegates,

As witnessed in our recent Thanksgiving Celebration, the challenges and
miracles of Interfaith Dialogue continue in the Austin community.

At AAIM we remain dedicated to this Dialogue.

AAIM's Delegate Assemblies give participants of all faiths the opportunity
to meet and engage in conversation -- conversations so engaging that we
continually run out of time and are left craving more. Hearing your
requests for more discussion, we decided to facilitate an Interfaith
Dialogue at our November Assembly based on The Amazing Faith of Texas -- a
book dedicated to the spiritual bonds that connect our many faiths.

Our November Assembly opened with words from the creator of The Amazing
Faith of Texas, who shared his journey in meeting the many fascinating
people in the book. Following his talk, we divided into groups and engaged
in a conversation tailored very differently from everyday dialogue. In our
small groups we responded to questions taken from the Amazing Faiths Project
and related to our individual journeys of faith. This particular "dialogue"
required each participant to speak without interruption and listen without
responding. In this way everyone was heard and the "dialogue" focused on
what was being said. The conversations that ensued were beautiful and
exhilarating, and the November Assembly was a great success.

Looking at the events that transpired from our Thanksgiving service in the
weeks following, we see the miracle of this Dialogue in action! The
greatest gift has been the questions and conversations coming out of this
event. One of our delegates broached the subject with his own congregation
and spurred dialogue among them.

He wrote to his congregation, saying:

"I'm writing to ask two questions about a hypothetical situation. Although
hypothetical, I believe the answers are extremely important -- certainly for
me as an individual (or I wouldn't be asking), but also for all of us as a
part of this faith community."

The questions were the following:

          1. If your congregation or organization had the opportunity to
host this (or a
similar) interreligious worship service, what would be your
decision?

          2. In either case ('yes' or 'no'), would specific 'beliefs' be
the basis for your
               decision and what are they?

We consider these questions both timely and important. Accordingly, we ask
that you present these same questions to your own congregation or
organization. Ponder your own response, then gather your congregation's
feedback, as well as the positions taken by the decision-makers in your
congregation. At the next Delegate Assembly we hope to share the responses
to these questions.

It is vital that we keep this dialogue going. The topics, we hope, will be
as diverse as we are. If you have any questions regarding this "assignment",
feel free to call the AAIM offices at (512) 386-9145.

Hope to see you at the next Delegate Assembly in January. Click here
