There could be one of a number of issues that is giving you troubles:
I would ask you this, when you experience the machine stopping immediately
after it began because the top thread didn't tie in with the bobbin thread,
if you remove the bobbin case - without actually pulling extra bobbin out of
the case, how long is the bobbin thread tail?
Are you sure the machine is sewing with tie-ins when you experience these
"pull outs".
When you insert your bobbin case into the machine, are you sure to leave
about 3 inches of thread dangling out the front?
Have you tried a different bobbin case?
Is your "inching stitch count" set too low. I prefer a 6 or 7 as opposed to
the factory setting of 3.
Is you fabric flush to the needle plate as it sits in the hoop?
What is the material thickness setting when the machine starts a new stitch?
(Specifically when running in Auto Mode)
Could your bobbin tension be set too tight?
A medium tail length should be just fine.
Is the "Pig tail" on your bobbin case bent?
Do you find that you're getting inconsistent tension on the bobbin?
Presser Foot setting all the way down?
(Move needle case to needle #16 - this adjustment wheel is just behind the
needle case on the left hand side. The outer most edge of the adjustment
wheel is relative to the presser foot itself. If you roll the wheel down,
the presser foot will go down, etc., etc. You will only see the presser
foot move up and down with this adjustment wheel when the needle and presser
foot are in the "Bottom Dead Center" position. That means at it's bottom
most portion of the needle stroke. Never adjust this as the machine is
running. It could be a safety hazard.)
Possibly your under thread presser is not holding the bobbin correctly after
a trim.
Melco has put, in your software, a sewing test design called the Amaya trim
test. You should try to run this and see what results. You can find it
under: C drive/program files/Melco Embroidery Systems/Amaya/Test
Designs/Amayatrim.exp. This design will give you something like 72 trims in
a relatively small design but it will also give you 72 tie-in's as well.
Make sure you assign all 16 needles in the color sequence and pay attention
to not only how many "pull outs" you experience but also what needles they
happen on.
Let me know what you find.

I have an XT and I have been having trouble with the bobbin thread being engaged at the beginnning of a color change for a while now. I initially increased my slow stitches and put it at 8. That seemed to do the trick for a while. Then I started having trouble again. I loosened the tension on my bobbin slightly--but not very much because before I was having trouble with false bobbin breaks, which if I'm right is due to too high of MT and/or too loose of bobbin tension. That seemed to do the trick for a while too. Then tonight I had more sporadic episodes of the bobbin thread just not wanting to pick up at all. I decreased my MT just for the bobbin pick up and than increased it right away for the sewout when this happened. This seems to do the trick. But I don't want to constantly or sporadically be changing the MT back and forth for each color change. Any ideas of what is happening or what I am doing wrong???
Also, my bobbin enabled to tell me to replace my bobbin after stitches. I don't think this can be right because when the message pops up I don't think even half my bobbin thread is gone. Previously I wasn't paying attention to this message because I didn't want to waste bobbin thread. But I decided maybe I would have less trouble if I replace my bobbin before it was all used up.
