Poly has the advantage of not "aging" like rayon does. Over time and depending on your climate, rayon thread dries out and breaks easier. Rayon is a natural fiber, so it isn't as strong as poly. Rayon does have a nicer sheen. Poly lasts forever. Black rayon thread was always my nightmare...too much pigment to make the fibers black. I think with rayon your stitches per minute is slower too, to help it keep from breaking.
