HI Cheryl,

No, I folded the sweatband out and hooped the hat. The thing that was
really a pain was the sides of the hat (the floppy rim) I had to curl it
under the strap of the hoop by the left and right sides. The hats that I
sewed on were from SanMar and the rim was quite flexible. It definitely
wasn't easy...quite a struggle but I was able to do it and it came out
surprisingly well.

I actually didn't want to do the job at all because I thought there was no
way it could be done but with plenty patience (which I lost quite a few
times) I was able to do it.

Is the rim of the hat very stiff? That may pose a problem if it is. If you
can just curl the sides under so you can clamp down the strap you will be
okay. Also, be careful getting it on the machine...that takes a lot of
manipulating too.

I wish I could give you step by step instructions as to how I did it, but it
was defiantly a do whatever it takes kind of thing, and if it worked great.

Have you tried hooping the hat yet?

Barbara.

Barbara,
Did you hoop the sweatband?

Cheryl

I have recently done some of the outback style hats on the new XT cap
frame...it wasn't exactly easy, but it does work....it just takes a bit
of
configuring the hat on the hoop and keeping the wide brim out of the
way.

Subject: [amayausers] Outback type hats with the new XT cap hoops

Hello all,
I used to sew outback type hats with the big floppy brims on my older
AMAYAs by hooping the sweat band. Has anyone had to sew these type of
hats on the new XT cap hoops. My concern is that the older hoops had
two straps to grab the sweatband and the new ones have only one strap.
Comments anyone? Thanks.
