This may not be the most efficient method, but I pen an "X" on a piece of tape.
I measure the distance from the center of the design to the bottom in DS.
Place the tape centered left to right, and add 1/4-1/2" to your DS measurement.
You can then use your laser to place the design.
As for hooping, I use a point on each side of my hoop to ensure the pocket
stays level. I've not been able to achieve great consistency with the hooping
aids.
