The lower rod ( the smaller rod of the two ) seems to be a weak point in the 
cap driver support area. I have seen many of these that have broken because of 
fatigue from vibration. 

The rod is held in place by a roll pin. The pin must be tapped out with a punch 
of some kind (drift punch tool) a new rod put in and the roll pin replaced.
