Hi Tom,
The Amaya is different from other commercial machines on the market because 
it "pushes" the thread out (that is what the rollers and sensors are all 
about and the amount of thread pushed out is governed by the material 
thickness you set.  Other commercial machines have all the tension knobs to 
control the tension for each needle.  That is why the Amaya can sew much 
faster.  Other machines "pull" the thread by the bobbin like a sewing 
machine.  If our thread is too tight, we give it more material thickness by 
increasing the number. Hope this makes some sense for you.
