Easy fix on the holes...I posted this before for small 'sample' spools...
chuck a 3/8" drill bit in a hand held cordless drill, and slowly 'ream out' the
holes to make them larger. Wrap a paper towel or cloth around the spool with
rubber bands-keeps the particles out of the thread. If the hole is small all
the way down the spool, go as far as you can from one end, flip it over, and go
from the other end to finish it up.
Just have a good firm grip on the spool while doing it, or have
husband/boyfriend/bodybuilder muckle onto it while you drill it out. Works like
a charm!
