I was able to watch it from my patio window – I was impressed at how visible it
was, I could see the staging and the decent of the booster. The conditions
were perfect, clear crisp dark sky.
Very cool! Almost like being in Gattaca. J *For those who don’t know,
Gattaca was a space port and the film was shot here in San Rafael, they showed
rockets launching from various Marin locations. One shot looked like it was
launched from Lucas Valley. J

Up early and watched it here in the Santa Cruz Mountains from my deck. Low
clouds obscured most of the sky to the southeast over Monterey bay, but I
managed to see Falcon 9 rising through clouds with a brilliant exhaust trail
glowing in the sunlight at altitude. Very Cool! Lost it in the clouds before
MECO.

Falcon 9 Paz launch delayed
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. - The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying a
PAZ payload from Space Launch Complex-4, is delayed to allow for additional
time to perform final checkouts of the upgraded fairing. The Falcon 9 and
payload remain healthy.
The launch is rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 6:17 a.m. PST.

Peter, Thanks for the reply. I might have figured it out. I plotted the
bearings from 3 viewing points and then drew a line, from my house to where
they came together. Looks like I need to be looking at a bearing of 157 degrees.

My take on the diagram is that (from Castle Rock S.P. (west of San Jose)) you
should look
South South/East (~ 1/2 between South and South/East) and only a few degrees
(5-10) above the
horizon.
I have only a little intuition about how that would change from somewhere
closer to Santa Rosa. My
*guess* is that it will be visible less time and closer still to the horizon.
The higher you are,
the better.
I looked at the other diagrams (specifically San Diego) it looks like it's
going south (as I would expect
from a Vandenburg launch (South over the ocean)) for a polar orbit.
Anyone smarter/more knowledgeable than me, please correct me if I'm off in any
way big or small.
